Default Kuro's 280z

Hi all - had this thread started on Chicagoz, but wanted put it here since I do spend a lot of time here on jdmc.

As you may or may not know, I sold my rx8 and bought a (black, lol)'78 280z on Valentine's Day

Anyway, there's a bit of work needed to get this car looking good. Got some things planned but since I know it's going to be awhile before it gets there, we're taking it slow and just trying to give it a good base.

Here's some pics for those who haven't seen them:

Here's the car the day it arrived from Florida:

No, we didn't go to Florida to see the car before I bought it, but when it came, it was pretty close to the condition I thought it would be in.

I plan to update this thread as we work on it. If any of you classic z enthusiasts want to join in on the fun, feel free!

Here's some of the issues that will need to be addressed at some point.

The welds on the exhaust are pretty bad

The holes will need to be fixed where the molding was located

Something (I don't know what since I have no clue about bodywork, hopefully we'll be experts soon) will have to be done with this

It's not cement, it was just mud....

Something was done here, anyone know what?

I wonder if these were the original sideview mirrors, they are very flimsy, they won't be staying.
The overspray was I'm guessing, based on what the previous owner said, repairs to rust - the spray was some lime green primer.

Rust

Passenger side footwell

Driver side footwell

ohhh gotta try this!

Engine

Looks like all new weatherstripping is needed (all around)

Carpet needed

Minor things
Radio

Shift boot has seen better days

I'm guessing hood is not too bad

So after I bought the car, while I was trying to get a shipping company to go get it, the previous owner
decides to tell me that the car has no brakes. No e-brake and no brakes PERIOD.

He managed to connect the e-brake for me before the driver got there - they would not transport it
without the brakes being in somewhat working condition, for obvious reasons.

The car has already undergone a rear disc conversion (280zx), but something was wrong. The calipers were hitting the brake hose. When we checked the brakes, the brake hoses on both sides were cut.

Well that was the first thing we decided to take a look at.

I will condense this update on my brakes to one summary since it was a long process to get them fixed, mostly parts that I didn't realize were bad (all of them).

Parking brake had to be rerouted a bit, Rear (converted to calipers) had to be tossed and reman'd ones put in instead, bought a used larger master cylinder 15/16 (reman'd ourselves), reman'd 10" brake booster because the one on the car was compromised by hydraulic fluid from the original leaking master cylinder, new rotors (not necessary but at that point, might as well), new brake hose.

After all that, I'm happy to say the brakes now work.

Regarding calipers, make sure the bleeder is always at the top, higher than the line input.

Yes, the previous owner had them reversed. But see my update above... it's all fixed now.
